ALAMANCE COUNTY, NC  — A driver accused of a deadly hit-and-run in Alamance County has been arrested states away, according to troopers.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol says the suspect in the hit-and-run that killed Darrin Alston Swann, 19, of Liberty, was taken into custody.

His vehicle was side-swiped by a Penske box truck, causing him to swerve off the road into a ditch. He died at the scene.

The truck did not remain on the scene of the crash, and law enforcement confirmed that they were found during a traffic stop in New Jersey. The suspect remains in the custody of the New Jersey State Police.

Troopers say that the suspect was found on the New Jersey Turnpike and that New Jersey State Police were able to intercept the suspected box truck.

Desmone Kashawn Reeder, 45, of Greenville, South Carolina, is awaiting extraction back to North Carolina, according to highway patrol.
